Press Conference 13-04-2017

Pakistan Academy of Letters is working for the promotion of literature as well as national harmony and brotherhood in the country. PAL believes that writers can play a vital role in diminishing the threat of extremism and terrorism. This was said by Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) while giving a briefing about PAL’s future conferences and programs in the press conference.
He said that In order to work in the line with the National Action Plan PAL has planned to hold five conferences during the months from April to May 2017. Topics of the conferences will be ‘The Role of Literature in National Harmony’. First conference of this series will be held in Muzaffarabad on April 15 to16, 2017. President and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu &Kashmir will preside over the event. Second conference will be held from April 29 to 30, 2017 at Landi Kotal, FATA. The venue of the third conference will be held from May 13 to 14, 2017 at Gilgit Baltistan while the fourth conference will be held from May 25 to 26, 2017 at Bara Gali, Peshawar. PAL is also planning to hold a national level ‘Sufi Conference’ from May 19to 20, 2017 in Multan.

PAL has also planned to hold a ‘Young Generation Literary Mela’ series for youngster. First mela of this series will be held at Gujrat with the collaboration of Gujrat University.
He said that PAL organized three national level conferences in Lahore, Karachi and Quetta in the last year. In Lahore a conference was held in collaboration of University of Management and Technology. While Karachi Art Council and Avari Tower extended their cooperation and support in holding a conference in Karachi, in which CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah and Minister for information Perviaz Rashid participated . Third conference was held in Quetta with the support of Baluchistan Government. CM Baluchistan presided the opening session of the event. Writers and scholar from all provinces presented papers.
A National level debate was also conducted by PAL to mark the Mother Languages Day. All provincial offices of PAL also arranged seminars on the same topic. In Islamabad a group of experts of linguistics was gathered and a discussion was held to compile recommendations for the formation of a government language policy.
He furher said that PAL also arranged a conference in Lahore to welcome a delegation of Chinese writers. Governor Punjab Malik Rafiq Rajwana and Secretary Parliament Barrister Moshin Ranjha participated in event. Pal has also held a series of meetings with eminent writers under the program ‘Meet a Writer over a cup of tea’.
