A special literary and cultural session was held under the auspices of Pakistan Academy of Letters in recognition of the outstanding services of renowned Turkish scholar, intellectual, and researcher Prof. Dr. Khalil Toqar, recipient of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, in the field of language and literature.
The chief guests of the ceremony were Huzaifa Rahman, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, and Irfan Nazir Oghlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Pakistan. Guests of honor included Farrukh Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for Education and National Heritage & Culture Division, Dr. Mehmet Turan, Educational Counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Pakistan, and Dr. Kamran Jahangir, Managing Director of the National Book Foundation. The ceremony was moderated by Munir Fayaz.
Addressing the ceremony, Huzaifa Rahman said that Dr. Khalil Toqar's invaluable services for Urdu literature will always be remembered. He added that institutions like Pakistan Academy of Letters represent Pakistan's soft image, and organizing this event in recognition of Dr. Khalil Toqar's services is a testament to the Academy's love for literature.
Farrukh Naz Akbar expressed that Dr. Khalil Toqar has built a literary and cultural bridge between Turkey and Pakistan through his tireless efforts, a bridge that will continue to strengthen with time. She said that Dr. Khalil Toqar has emerged as a true ambassador of Pakistan and Urdu literature in Turkey.
Turkish Ambassador Irfan Nazir Oghlu stated that Pakistan-Turkey relations are growing stronger with each passing day, and literature and culture are giving a new dimension to these ties.
Dr. Mehmet Turan remarked that educational and literary ties between Pakistan and Turkey are an excellent means of learning from each other's experiences. He said that Dr. Khalil Toqar's services play a vital role in promoting educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Dr. Kamran Jahangir expressed that books, reading, and literature are the strong foundations that connect nations intellectually. He said that the National Book Foundation and Pakistan Academy of Letters want to further expand their joint efforts for promoting such literary ties.
Chairperson Dr. Najeeba Arif, in her introductory address, mentioned Dr. Khalil Toqar's deep spiritual and intellectual bond with Pakistan, saying his selfless services to Urdu literature prove that literature knows no borders.
Delivering the keynote, Dr. Farooq Adil said that due to his immense love for Pakistan, Dr. Khalil Toqar faces travel restrictions in India, but despite this, he continues his services for the promotion of Pakistan and Urdu language and literature.
Dr. Ashraf Kamal described Dr. Khalil Toqar's scholarly, research, and literary services as an important milestone in Pak-Turkey relations.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guests and other distinguished participants presented a commemorative shield to Dr. Khalil Toqar. Dr. Khalil Toqar expressed that the love and respect he receives from Pakistan is priceless treasure for him, and his connection with Urdu language and literature is not merely academic but heartfelt and spiritual. He thanked the Chairperson of Pakistan Academy of Letters and all participants for organizing the event in his honor and pledged to continue his services for promoting literary and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkey.
