The inauguration of the 2nd Inter-Provincial Residential Program for Writers was held on January 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM in the Sheikh Ayaz Conference Hall, Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad. The program was organized under the National Heritage and Culture Division.
The session was presided over by renowned poet Iftikhar Arif, with Federal Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan Kachhi as chief guest and Federal Secretary Asad-ur-Rehman Gilani as guest of honor. Keynote speaker Muhammad Hafeez Khan delivered a lecture on the depth of authentic literature.
Chairperson Dr. Najeeba Arif outlined the program's objectives: providing a creative environment for writers from remote areas and fostering inter-provincial literary dialogue. She highlighted that this initiative not only facilitates creative expression but also promotes harmony and intellectual exchange among writers from different regions.
The Chief Guest, Federal Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan Kachhi, emphasized the government's commitment to the welfare of writers, calling them the intellectual guides of society. He announced that a request has been sent to the Prime Minister to increase writers' stipends from Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 25,000.
Iftikhar Arif, in his presidential address, remarked that no literature can become universal without being deeply rooted in its local culture and language. He praised the residential program as a vital step for nurturing creative talent.
