Welcome to Pakistan Academy of Letters
PAL with China / China Writers Associations (CWA)

The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) has developed sustained literary cooperation with China through formal agreements, publications, and cultural exchanges. On 5 January 2021, PAL concluded a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China, which is subject to automatic renewal. Subsequently, on 25 May 2021, PAL signed a five-year MoU with the China Writers’ Association. Pursuant to these agreements, the Chinese side has translated and published five Pakistani books into Chinese, while PAL has rendered into Urdu three Chinese novels recommended by its counterparts. Earlier, PAL published a Chinese-language edition of its flagship journal Pakistani Literature in 1994, followed by Urdu translations of Chinese works in 1998 and 2006, and a selection of contemporary Chinese short stories in 2017. More recently, the Chinese Cultural Counselor, H.E. Mr. Zhang Heqing, visited PAL in September 2024, while H.E. Mr. Chen Peng had been invited to attend a book launch at PAL in January 2025.
